Our goal is to shape the Anchorage Child Care and Early Education Fund to meet immediate needs while building a sustainable, long-term effective system for our families and community. Feedback from and engagement with stakeholders – including providers, parents, businesses, and others – is essential to doing this effectively. We have hosted a number of events to engage stakeholders, including individual meetings, presentations, listening sessions, and participation in larger conversations with others also working to solve our community’s child care and early education challenges. Please see below for a list of upcoming and past events and meetings.

In April of 2023, Anchorage residents voted and passed Proposition 14 - Anchorage’s Child Care and Early Education Fund. The funds began accumulating in January of 2024 and will be expended starting in 2025, with an estimated five million dollars available annually.

To ensure these funds are used effectively, a private/public partnership between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Alaska Children’s Trust was formed to establish an Implementation Team. The Implementation Team will be responsible for developing a three-year strategic plan detailing how best to use these funds immediately as well as how to build a sustainable system for our families. The Implementation Team will also bring forward an ordinance to the Anchorage Assembly that will lay out the process for an Accountability Board, which will oversee the Fund. With the Implementation Team’s support, the Board will put together the Fund’s first annual budget, to be presented to the Anchorage Mayor and Assembly in the fall of 2024.

The Implementation Team consists of representatives from the Anchorage Assembly, Anchorage Health Department, Anchorage School District School Board, Head Start, and JBER, as well as business and nonprofit leaders, providers, and parents. We are deeply committed to engaging with and listening to providers, parents, community members, and others as we develop this important program. You can share feedback or get connected with us here.
